Sometimes, it’s good to lose. Or at least, come in fourth place. Just ask Chris Daughtry, who came in fourth place on American Idol in 2006. Soon after, spawned by a hit single, his debut album sold more than five million copies. And it has to be mentioned that the eventual Idol winner that year, Taylor Hicks, has nearly been forgotten. But wait, there’s more. Daughtry’s Grammy-nominated debut album spawned a trio of number one songs, was the largest-selling artist release for two years running, and earned several wins at the American Music Awards, the World Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.

Crooner Daughtry’s first tour was in 2007 and he proved that coming in fourth place doesn’t mean failure. His second album, “Leave This Town,” is due out this summer and one of the dozen-plus songs, “No Surprise,” is with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger. The album was recorded in Los Angeles by Daughtry, bassist Josh Paul, drummer Joey Barnes, and guitarists Brian Craddock and Josh Steely.

The intense North Carolina rocker is a force to see in concert. Fans love his hushed ballads and arena-rock anthems, as well as his emotional mid-tempo songs and country-influenced tunes. And everyone now knows, Chris Daughtry is a winner. Make that, a multi-platinum winner.
